Sunday Times Teaser 2609 – String Art
by Andrew Skidmore
Some nails are knocked into the edge of a circular board and each nail is connected to all others using taut strings. No three strings cross at the same point.
If there were six nails, there would be fifteen pieces of string with fifteen crossing points.
But there are more than six nails and the number of crossing points is a single digit multiple of the number of strings.
How many nails are there?
