Sunday Times Teaser 2735 – Two to Choose
By Ian Kay
I gave Sue and Terry different two-digit numbers, one being a multiple of the other. I told them this but the numbers were such that neither could deduce the other’s number.
After Sue said that she couldn’t deduce Terry’s number, he was then able to deduce hers.
Although they didn’t know it, if either had to guess the other’s number, Sue would have three times the number of choices that Terry would have.
What were their numbers?
